January 2026
Latest News:
Art time lately is mainly spent doing a daily practice sketch, editing the video clip, and posting to social media (TikTok, Instagram, YouTube) each day.
I’ve been pleased with being able to post almost every day because for a long time, posting once a week (including drawing or painting and editing) was all I could manage.
So daily posts feel like an accomplishment.
In The Studio:
Beyond my daily sketching practice, I have a couple of fun, pretty digital paintings in the works with a Chinese New Year theme (the image above is a sneak peek at part of one of them).
Many of you may not know that in the past few years, I have become quite fond of Asian media. Korean and Chinese dramas are the best TV and movies I’ve ever seen, and K-pop is really fun music with quite a bit of variety (have you met Stray Kids yet?).
Of course, art is no exception, so I’ve been really enjoying making some paintings that are Asian inspired, but still in my dog art theme.
At Home:
The dogs are doing great, and most of home life is pretty routine (which is the way I like it).
The challenges this month have been mainly weather related. We are having a particularly snowy winter and the extreme cold temperatures have been brutal.
For me, snow is pretty…if I don’t have to clear it or drive in it. Unfortunately, if there’s snow on the ground, chances are, I have to clear it (to get out of the driveway) and drive in it (to and from work each day).
Recently, it snows just about every day, sometimes just an inch, other times more like 8 inches plus. An inch isn’t a big deal, but since there’s no thaw in sight for a weeks, I still need to keep clearing it. If the layers build up, it’s even harder to clear, very icy.
Anyway, that’s my complaint for the month, lol.
My body aches from moving snow. And if that’s the worst thing, I face in the month ahead, I will count myself lucky!
Wishing you a fun February ahead! Enjoy Chinese New Year, which starts on the 17th.
Stay warm, my friend!
